Weaverville Cross Country

The Weaverville Wildcat Cross Country Team had a great showing at its first meet of the season. The Wildcat runners attended the Happy Valley meet at the tough West Valley High School course. The distance of the course is 1.8 miles. Running in the early season heat and the tough training runs, the Weaverville runners had an impressive showing at their first meet of the season. In the 7 th grade girls division Melissa Palermo placed 2 nd out of 24 runners, with a time of 14:42. Petra Garcia finished 10 th with a time of 15:26. Elena Tiedeman ( 15:33) and Kaelei Lichney ( 15:40) were not far behind finishing 11 th and 12 th. The 7 th grade boys also impressed with 3 runners in the top ten. Willy Bishop led the way with a 7 th place finish ( 13:37). Chris Brown ( 14:02) and Stephen Harwood ( 14:07) finished at 8 th and 10 th place. Dillon Leiper just missed the top ten, placing 11 th with a time of 14:10. Henry Villareal, Sean Taylor, Gabe Dale-Allen, Casey Roan, and Cody Sanders worked hard to finish their first race. Jaimee Bunce received a 3 rd place medal in the 8 th grade girls division with a time of 14:56. Rachel Seguin and Geraldine Pedrotti showed promise finishing in the middle of the pack of 26 runners. The 8 th grade boys placed two runners in the top ten. Kody Bigham ran a great race, finishing in 4 th with a time of 12:30. Luke Curran ( 13:23) finished 6 th out of 35 runners. Mitchell Yates ( 14:43) and Michael Quaid ( 14:59) just missed the top ten finishing in 14 th and 15 th place. Shawn Wills ( 16:15) and Louis Avila ( 17:03) finished 21 st and 25 th. The Weaverville runners will attend the Redding Adventist meet at Kids Kingdom on Sept. 28. Results of the Sun-Dial meet will be in next week’s paper.
